Hannah Cooper | Travel writer

I’m a self-employed travel writer based between England, Chile, and wherever else the wind blows me.

Before pivoting into writing, I climbed my way up to Publicity Manager at one of the “Big Five” publishers, dipping my toes into marketing and sales positions along the way.

Travel was part and parcel of these roles: I chaperoned authors on tours in the United Kingdom/Ireland and attended medical conferences in continental Europe.

My first self-employment venture saw me managing PR campaigns for independent authors and boutique brands. These days I work as an freelance writer and staff writer at Matador Network.

My roving lifestyle has taken me to five continents. I’ve served in the Canterbury Coastguard, volunteered at an Otago animal sanctuary, trekked with orangutans in Sumatra, and had snowball fights in the Caucasus mountains.

I’ve spent the past two years in Chile learning Spanish, hiking in Darwin’s footsteps, and getting to grips with Carménère.

I picked up a BA in Ancient History and Classical Archaeology from the University of Warwick and remain curious about ancient civilisations, architecture, and mythology through my travels and work.

When off-duty, I’ll have my nose in a detective novel or be riding my bike along the seafront. I’ve partaken in accelerated freefall skydiving, Bosun sailing, scuba diving, and skiing around the world and can never resist a day at a theme park.
